ProtonMail helped the Feds in the ChipMixer case.

I was reading the indictment about the famous coin mixer called ChipMixer which was recently taken down by FBI and DOJ. In the whole court document, they specify how they tracked the administrator of the ChipMixer.

You can read the whole court document here. On the page 27, it states that

"An international records request for the chipmixer@protonmail.com account revealed there were two accounts linked to the email address chipmixer@protonmail.com"

Another mention of protonmail helping feds is on the page 37, it states that:

Further, PayPal transaction logs related to the accounts listed in the table above revealed there were transactions with approximately 70 different users with ProtonMail accounts.
The FBI submitted international records requests for subscriber data for these ProtonMail accounts.

They were able to ask for the recovery email and other sensitive data. My last note would be:

PLEASE DO NOT USE PROTONMAIL!​

Yea protonmail is sketchy and will dox you to the feds. Just do what i do:

1. Register a new email address using Tor
2. Use a sms verification service over Tor and pay with crypto (XMR)
3. Done

Now just make sure to always login via Tor and you're good to go.

This is helpful.

In recent times protonmail has permitted email for such verification over Tor for free registration. Some disposable email address work but may require some tries.

OpSec is always your own responsibility, one slip and you leave a bread crumb behind that can be tracked to you so yes, whatever service you use, make sure there's nothing that links back to you.

if you use tor to open account they can't let you open one you have to give them something about you email or phone number but when you try to open account with norml ip and browser you can skip this type of shit

This is true, they cooperate with fedz. But, they are not able to provide them access to your account or you chats.
