Why you should not use it.
First of all, thanks for taking time and reading this article, it took me about 3 hours to compile the data, create the graph and write everything up to be shared here.
Kape Technologies officially acquired PIA, ExpressVPN, CyberGhost VPN, Ajillion LLC, Definiti Media, Reimage, DriverAgent, Itego, Zenmate and Webselenese from the span of May 12, 2014 to Sep 13, 2021.
Details:
The company used to be called Crossrider and specialized in SDK's for deployment in browser extensions that used a variety of platforms to monetize these extensions. The scummy practices those monetization tools would make use of included: Ad-injectors which would use a method called man-in-the-browser (MITB) to change or add advertisements to whatever the user saw. After becoming more popular they started being used in malware and adware, unable to fight abuse the company gained very bad reputation and subsequently changed fields.
They changed their name in March of 2018 to Kape technologies due to new management.
They own 3 mayor VPN services (CyberGhost VPN, ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access), used to make commercially viable monetization SDK's with, at best scummy practices and at worst outright malicious intentions AND own a VPN review platform (Webselenese). This questions their confidentiality and credibility when disclosing information to the public. I have personally not investigated any allegations against the platform and what I am listing here is information I have raised while researching the company and its connections to shady businesses.
At the end of the day, it is still completely on you if you decide to use them, though I would highly discourage from doing so as they have a shady past.
