DPI is being used by "restricted countries". I have many friends that is living in restricted countries and this is bad for them and for their privacy. I don't know why they are using but they are using and they will use forever. There is some methods for bypass DPIs. They can see your every bit of packets from your network. They can easily block VPNs by DPIs but you can bypass blocked VPNs (for example zero log policy VPNs) by few method. Open-source DPI is just just a little bit part of DPI. Countries and states have more powerful devices. Just an example for DPI devices: Sandvine PacketLogic
