Good evening dear community,
I wanted to start a thread on the topic of anonymous payments with cryptocurrencies, and I hope this can help some of you.
Many providers accept crypto, but anonymity is crucial to minimize risks.
Here, I'm sharing my experiences and tips that I've gathered over a few years.
Important: This is not financial or legal advice, and crypto always carries risks (volatility, etc.).

1.) How to pay anonymously ?
The key is to avoid leaving traces: No linking to your real identity (e.g., via KYC exchanges or reused addresses).
  • Privacy Coins as the best option:
    • Monero (XMR): Still the most well-known and robust privacy coin. Transactions are private by default (ring signatures, stealth addresses). The price has risen strongly in recent years, though there have been ups and downs. Additionally, Monero has been delisted from most exchanges.
    • Zcash (ZEC): Experienced a massive jump in 2025 after XMR was delisted from exchanges (over 500% in the year). Shielded transactions offer top privacy, but the price is volatile and currently down a bit again. High risk of losses.
  • Other coins (e.g., BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL): Can be used anonymously if done correctly (see tips below). Direct payments with transparent coins are risky because transactions are traceable on the public blockchain.
  • Not recommended: USDC (or other centralized stablecoins like USDT from Tether): The issuer (Circle) can freeze wallets on request from authorities (e.g., for sanctions or investigations). The chance is low for "normal" transactions, but why take the risk? There are enough cases where funds were blocked.

2.) Tips to stay anonymous
Anonymity doesn't come from the coin alone, but from proper handling:
  • Completely avoid KYC: Buy/swap crypto only via no-KYC platforms (e.g., P2P or platforms without KYC).
  • Use clean wallets:
    • Ideally, a new address per transaction (most good wallets generate this automatically).
    • Use cold wallets for storage (e.g., Ledger or Trezor – secure and offline).
  • Mixing/Swapping for extra privacy:
    • Swap to XMR (or ZEC shielded), send through 3-5 different wallets, and swap back to the desired currency.
    • Recommendation: FixedFloat – Fast, no-KYC, reliable, and good rates (many positive reviews in 2025).
    • Compare alternatives: https://www.bestchange.com/
  • Private exchangers:
    • Best to use private/offline providers (e.g., via forums or Telegram groups). Often possible to exchange vouchers (e.g., Amazon, Paysafe) offline or even cash for crypto – no data needed, and it doesn't matter. (Extreme warning about scammers)
  • Most important rule: Separate real life and the scene!
    • Never use scene wallets for real payments (e.g., Lieferando etc.).
    • Separate wallets: One for "scene", one for everyday use. This avoids cross-linking through chain analysis.

Summary:
With privacy coins + good practices, you're well protected.
But remember this:
Complete anonymity doesn't exist. You always leave traces somewhere. The question is what kind of traces you leave.
What are your experiences? Which coins/exchangers are you currently using? Feel free to share tips below.

Various resources. You'll need to invest a lot of time exploring and discovering. I've basically gone through everything here. Not bad.
This is a good compilation, well done.

It is too bad that privacytools does not have a hidden service.

It's a good topic, but I have one comment.

I do not suggest to use FixedFloat because some users have experienced problems with KYC.

Such as https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/s/n9m64xJNSl

You should use another exchange, that is not FixedFloat.
I agree here, I would also like to add that Bestchange is no longer a representative aggregator, and there are no no-kyc exchanges listed there.
