The attackers got deep enough into the system that staff had to switch to manual operations as a safety measure. It's likely the hackers first got in through a phishing email or by breaking into a remote desktop connection, then used tools like Cobalt Strike to move around and explore the network. While no data was stolen, the way the attack happened suggests it may have been a test run by a ransomware group or even a government-backed hacking team preparing for a bigger attack in the future.
