Yes I think he is correct. although you need to be somewhere in approximate region of the WiFi network. This tool only capture WPA/WPA2/PMKID handshakes (this data already exist in the air as electromagnetic signals). after you got them you can cracked them offline by using Hashcat or John the Ripper. Note you need to investigate further and do you research, I am not an expert in Network Engineering. The video is for script kiddies it only demonstrate the tools and does little job in explaining the core technologies behind them.
