Why are search queries being recorded?

Search queries are being recorded. This is dangerous for those that care for anonymity if they are recorded forever. We hear OPSEC failures on this subject. Example: Pompompurin
admin are they logged forever?

I am sure many here have already queried some form of traceable terms like a mail account or country name or PC manufacturer or router settings etc.
